She's everything. He's just Ken.

Summary
In Barbie, the world of Barbieland is a brightly colored, meticulously ordered paradise where every day is perfect. The various Barbies excel at everything from politics and science to journalism and diplomacy, while the Kens spend much of their time competing for attention and approval. At the center is Stereotypical Barbie, played by Margot Robbie, who enjoys the confidence and certainty expected of the world’s most famous doll—until unsettling thoughts and unexpected changes begin to disrupt her routine. Hoping to understand what is happening, Barbie travels to the real world with Ken, played by Ryan Gosling. Their encounter with human society challenges everything they believe about themselves and the seemingly flawless society they left behind. Ken is fascinated by the power structures he encounters, while Barbie finds that being an idealized symbol does not necessarily make it easy to be a real person. Back in Barbieland, their experiences begin to reshape the community and unsettle its established assumptions. The film’s principal human character is Gloria, portrayed by America Ferrera, a Mattel employee whose personal connection to Barbie becomes important to the story. Other notable figures include Gloria’s daughter, Sasha, Mattel executives led by Will Ferrell’s CEO, and a lively ensemble of Barbies and Kens, each representing different ideas about identity, status, and possibility. Directed by Greta Gerwig and co-written with Noah Baumbach, Barbie combines exuberant visual comedy with a surprisingly thoughtful exploration of gender roles, cultural expectations, and the pressures of perfection. It questions whether a person can be defined by an image, a job, a relationship, or the expectations of others, while also examining the complicated legacy of a toy that has inspired both affection and criticism. Beneath its glossy colors and playful humor, the movie is ultimately concerned with self-discovery, individuality, and the difficult but liberating process of becoming more than what others imagine you should be.
