RR has always been in love with his best friend, Janine. But she's infatuated with Kenzo, the star of her own fan fiction. When he finds a way for Janine to meet Kenzo, will he risk his own happiness just for her to have her own happiness?

Summary

“Almost Us” follows RR, a young man who has quietly been in love with his best friend, Janine, for years. Their close friendship gives him a meaningful place in her life, but it also keeps him trapped in the painful role of confidant while Janine dreams about someone else. Her obsession is Kenzo, the charismatic star who has become the idealized hero of her fan fiction—and, in her imagination, the perfect romantic partner. When RR discovers a way for Janine to meet Kenzo, he sees an opportunity to make her fantasy come true, even though doing so could make his own feelings impossible to ignore. The situation forces him to weigh the comfort of staying close to Janine against the risk of helping her pursue a romance that may leave no room for him. Janine, meanwhile, must begin confronting the difference between the person she has created in her imagination and the complicated reality of a real relationship. Kenzo serves as both the object of her fascination and a catalyst for the emotional tensions between the three characters. Balancing romantic longing with the warmth and complications of friendship, “Almost Us” explores the vulnerability of loving someone who may never see you in the same way. Its central themes include unrequited love, selflessness, emotional honesty, and the gap between fantasy and reality. The film also considers whether a person can truly act for someone else’s happiness without confronting their own desires, making its romance as much about personal growth and difficult choices as it is about finding the right partner.
