Padesátá léta se ve východní Evropě nesla ve všech zemích v podobném duchu: stalinské čistky se nevyhnuly nikomu, kdo smýšlel jinak, než vedení v Moskvě. Sportovní šermíř Endel Nelis tajně prchá z Leningradu do estonské vesničky Haapsalu, aby se zde ukryl v místní škole jako učitel tělocviku. Přes všechnu nepřízeň ředitele školy si děti prosadí, aby je Endel učil šerm. Když přijde možnost jet s oddílem na soutěž do Leningradu, stojí Endel před životním rozhodnutím: zradit jejich důvěru a soutěž dětem odepřít, nebo se tak dobrovolně vydat napospas KGB?(Dny evropského filmu)
