캐나다의 한 작은 섬마을에 이장으로 살고 있는 바비와 그의 아내는 얼마 안 되는 주민들과 함께 나름대로 평화로운 삶을 살고 있다. 어느 날, 바비와 마을 주민들은 파도에 밀려온 한 소녀를 바닷가에서 발견한다. 그 소녀를 집으로 데리고 온 바비는 그의 아내와 함께 그 소녀를 자신들의 딸 같이 정성스럽게 보살피던 중, 그 소녀에게 신비한 힘이 있다는 걸 알게 된다. 섬마을 주민들은 사람을 치유하는 능력, 그리고 심지어는 물고기 떼를 연안으로 불러 모아 마을 주민들이 쉽게 잡을 수 있게 하는 능력까지 겸비한 소녀에게 기대기 시작한다. 이런 소녀의 신비함을 외부 사람들에게는 절대로 알리지 말자고 다짐하는 마을 주민들, 하지만 예기치 못한 상황이 발생하고 마을 사람들끼리 내분이 일어나기 시작하는데...
