遺体安置所を舞台に身元不明女性遺体の検死から、さまざまな怪現象が巻き起こる恐怖を、リアルな解剖シーンの描写を交えて描いたホラー作品。バージニア州の田舎町で息子のオースティンとともに遺体安置所と火葬場を経営するベテラン検死官トミー。ある夜、保安官から入った緊急の検死依頼は、一家3人が惨殺された家屋の地下から裸で発見された身元不明女性、通称「ジェーン・ドウ」の検死だった。解剖を進めていく中で、遺体に隠されたある事実が判明し、閉ざされた遺体安置所にさまざまな怪奇現象が発生する。
