Simba est l'héritier du trône de son père Mufasa. Le jeune lionceau est très excité à l'idée d'un jour devenir roi, mais lorsque son père est tué par un troupeau de gnous, il quitte le royaume croyant être le seul responsable de ce terrible accident. Simba rencontre alors un phacochère et un suricate qui lui font adopter leur mode de vie simple et sans tracas. Plus tard, alors qu'il est devenu adulte, il apprend que son ancien royaume est maintenant dirigé son abominable oncle Scar, qui a réduit les animaux à l'esclavage. Simba devra donc, avec l'aide de ses compères, reprendre possession de son trône et ramener la paix.
