Thomas, 16 ans, se réveille dans un monte-charge qui le conduit vers une clairière où l’accueille un groupe d’adolescents dirigé par Alby. Amnésique, Thomas ne se souvient pas de son passé et ne sait pas non plus pourquoi il se retrouve prisonnier tout comme les autres. Alby lui explique que la clairière est entourée de hautes murailles qui cachent un labyrinthe peuplé de créatures monstrueuses. Chaque jour, seuls quelques coureurs rapides peuvent y pénétrer afin d’essayer d’y trouver une voie de sortie. L’arrivée de Teresa, seule fille de la bande, précipite les choses. L’intrépide Thomas se joint alors au groupe des coureurs.
