Le diabolique Kai s'est échappé du royaume des esprits et il cherche à voler la puissance de tous les maîtres afin de conquérir le monde. Seul le panda Po peut l'arrêter. Il devra avant tout maîtriser une technique spéciale et être capable d'enseigner le kung-fu. Pendant que les « Cinq cyclones » et Maître Shifu tentent de résister aux attaques de Kai, Po suit son père biologique dans la vallée des pandas où il pourra reconnecter avec les siens. L'apprentissage ne se déroule toutefois pas comme prévu et le temps commence à manquer.
