MICRODOSE Brighton Resort
In our latest MICRODOSE series we aim to explore the most influential resorts and iconic locations in snowboarding history, starting with—that’s right—Brighton Resort in Salt Lake City, Utah. Welcome to Brighton Resort Episode 1 of 5. For many riders young and old, Brighton Resort will forever be the epicenter of the snowboarding world. The plentiful snowfall, terrain parks, lift ops, cat drivers, mechanics, management, cafeteria, cooks, and mountain culture are all first class. Back in the early days, very few ski resorts were willing to take a chance on the newfound “lifestyle sport” of snowboarding, but Brighton took the leap. In doing so, Brighton made all the difference. Within a few years, hundreds of ski areas around the world came to see Brighton’s approach to snowboarding as the gold standard. From the biggest vacation destinations to the smallest trash heaps covered in fake snow, everyone (whether they’ve known it or not) has borrowed from the Brighton playbook. This has made it possible for millions of would-be snowboarders to make their first turns safely in-bounds via rope-tows, chairlifts, and gondola rides. Newbies need not traipse into the backcountry with no snow sense and little skill. For this we have Brighton to thank.

Wash'Dup
Based on a true story, this mockumentary film will follow a group of ex- snowboard filmmakers and ex-pro riders who never hung it up. Still in love with the sport and fueled by mid life crisis, these shred for lifers are extremely vulnerable to delusions of grandeur. But the dream is always “still alive” in their minds. In turn they ignore all the red flags and continue to do what seems completely irrational to everyone except for them. After a 16 year hiatus, they irresponsibly put their adult obligations behind, and join a pact to make just one last movie. But they are missing a solid presence of youth to make their movie marketable. As a remedy they end up filming with riders that span 2 generations. This unlikely alliance leads them to discover much more about snowboarding and themselves by living the snowboarding dream through an ageless lens. Filled with sketch comedy skits, this film expresses the nuanced story of a young sport reaching a level of maturity the current industry now begins to embrace. From the death of the snowboard shop, and extinction of film media, to the old pro struggling to find their way in life after the glory days are long gone, WashDup is a story that finally needs to be told.

K2 Snowboarding Presents: Jumbo Easy
La Zone
In the early 2000's, snowboard filmer David 'Vlad' Vladyka and a handful of riders discovered an off-the-radar area on the French-Swiss border that held massive potential for shooting freestyle snowboarding. The mountain pass featured rolling terrain punctuated by steep roll overs that are perfect for building jumps. The area was Le Col de Cou, and though it had a name, the riders called it 'La Zone', a purposefully vague nickname that would help them keep the area a secret. Over the next decade, La Zone would become one of the most productive and standard setting locations for filming freestyle snowboarding in all of Europe. Shots from La Zone were featured in several Absinthe films, and many others. Now 20 years later, Jones team rider Mat Schaer and Vlad still return to La Zone to film from time to time, but the pristine slopes they enjoyed in the past are much harder to find as Le Col de Cou has become a popular ski touring destination. Featuring new and historic footage from La Zone, this new short film directed by Julien Rosens, and produced by Absinthe Films, highlights the history, beauty and inevitable evolution of this legendary shred spot. The Black Crows - Ep 17: Michael “Bird” Shaffer
Bird's story is a patchwork, fragments and colorful stages that, in retrospect, mark out a journey still in motion. As everything is a cycle, and for this winged animal, it all comes back to the source, as he does himself every summer, back in Twisp (Washington), in the hilly land of his childhood. Born into an atypical family, a fighter pilot father who left everything behind to follow his wife to a hippie project in the hills of Washington State, Michael Shaffer was raised free and happy, close to nature. Those were also hard and frugal years, which forged an iconoclastic character but above all one of unlimited freedom. Whether he skis, flies or speaks, Bird radiates this independence, this quiet sovereignty, of one who has no ties and is content with little. He is happy to sleep on a sofa if the skiing is good and to drink water, as long as, the party goes on. In this new black doc, we fly in the wake of the rare bird, this original crow who has been skiing the chevron since the very beginning, in a unique and unbridled sensory flashback, from the chicken coop to the dance floor. additional thanks to Shane Wilder and the Stevens Pass Crew, Logan Sheppard-Bird the kid stunt-double and Alex Bosco for the conceptualizaton and additional cinematography.
