The Freedom Fighters, with new addition, Dulcy, develop a De-Roboti-sizer and try it out on Bunnie. It's a success and, against Sally's wishes, Sonic battles Robotnik's newest weapon, a Virtual Reality Shriek-Bot.

Sally, Rotor, Bunnie and Antoine take off in a homemade airplane, bound for an ancient city hidden deep in the Great Mountains, while Sonic follows via his favorite transportation, his sneakers.

Robotnik invents an electron altering generator which makes Scratch and Grounder twice as fast as Sonic. When they lose it and Tails picks it up, Tails speeds through the Mobius countryside leaving disasters and accidents in his wake.

Robotnik plans to block out the sun and extinguish all life and nature on the planet Mobius. Then he creates a robot son and tries to train him in the ways of wickedness.

After Sonic is almost sucked inside the Void, he finds a huge Ring which Sally believes is an ancient relic but it turns out to be trick of the Sorcerer, Nagus. Sally and Bunnie are drawn inside the Void and when Sonic comes to rescue them, Nagus pretends to be the King so Sonic will use his speed to transport him outside.

A speed enhancing fluid deemed Sonic Tonic is created by Robotnik to make him as fast as Sonic so that he may finally catch him.

The Hedgehogs steal historical artifacts of Mobuis from Robotnik before he can pawn them off at an auction.

The Hedgehogs find out that Sonia has inherited a castle. She basks in the idea of having a castle for headquarters.
