On the island of Malapascua in the Philippines, Anna Oposa and her team are working with local fisherman to create a nature reserve where thresher sharks can thrive. These sharks are famous for their long tails which they use to whip and stun their prey. Every day, pelagic thresher sharks head to Monad Shoal, a sunken island just off the coast of Malapascua, where other fish “clean” them of their external parasites. This remarkable sight is popular with divers but the numbers of thresher sharks are dwindling and Anna is spearheading the campaign to protect this incredible species in the Philippines.

Who are those brave, ready to face valiantly these snowstorms, this freezing humidity which never leaves you when it seizes you? They are golden eagles. Their wingspan exceeds two meters. Even from this distance, you can feel the power of the animal. Behind this royal dance hides the hunting instinct of a super predator. However, on the ground, prey is scarce at the end of winter. My eye is drawn to an aerial gathering. I can't count them all. They are vultures, the first raptors to be served on the remains.
