The Queen Mother calls a priestess and sets a day for Inhyeon and Lee Soon to spend the night together. Meanwhile, Chi Soo seeks out Min Yu Jung, saying he wants to pay the Westerners' political funds. He wants only one thing, the head of Jang Hyeon.
Lee Soon rises to the position of the fourth rank concubine. Meanwhile, Min Yu Jung devises a plot to chase Ok Jung out of the palace.
Ok Jung seeks out Jo Sa Seok, saying she will enter the palace. She asks him to free her mother and send her to the seamstress's chamber where she can make clothes. Meanwhile, Chi Soo, hearing Ok Jung wishes to enter the palace, says they should leave for China together.
Lee Soon, preparing to spend the night with Inkyeong, hears Hyeonjong is in critical condition and runs to his side. Meanwhile, Ok Jung is advised by Jo Sa Seok, who has come to Buyongjeong, to try and become a court lady.
Lee Soon finds out Ok Jung intends to make armor and lets her watch the military training. Meanwhile, Ok Jung encounters bandits, who see Ok Jung leveling her sword and shoot an arrow toward Lee Soon. But Ok Jung complains to Lee Soon all the more.
Ok Jung, through Jang Hyeon's help, is reunited with her long-lost brother Hee Jae. Hee Jae introduces her to Prince Dongpyeong, saying he met him in China. Also, Ok Jung, at Inkyeong's request to chaperone her at the Crown Princess selection, decides to help, saying it's a chance to see palace fashion.
Jang Hyeon went to Buyongjeong to take young Ok Jung with him. But he is disconcerted by Madam Kang's question, do you know my brother? Meanwhile, young Lee Soon, seeing pickpocketers steal from young Ok Jung, gets into a fight while helping her. Ok Jung takes Lee Soon with her and they run away.
Lee Soon receives a letter and ends up meeting Ok Jung. He grows lost in thought, thinking he has seen her face somewhere before. Meanwhile, Ok Jung seeks out Jo Sa Seok's wife and asks him to free her mother. From her uncle, Jang Hyeon, she hears of his dangerous ambition. Ok Jung is the only one who can realize his wish, so how about swallowing Joseon together?
Seungyu takes Seryeong to Bingokkwan and decides to take her with him when he leaves with his family. He pursues the plan to kill Suyang. When Seryeong disappears from the palace, Myeon goes to Bingokkwan.
Seungyu tries to break Lee Gae and Jeong Jong out of prison, but they refuse to break out. Seryeong thinks about all the people who are suffering because of her father and cuts off her ties with him.
Seryeong finds out about Seungyu's plan to kill Suyang and she is in conflict. Han Myeonghoe senses there is an assassination attempt and the attempt fails. Myeon goes after Seungyu.
Seryeong brings Seungyu to see his family and becomes installed as the princess. Lee Gae, Jeong Jong and some other scholars plan to assassinate Suyang. Seungyu joins in their cause.
Prince Suyang finally becomes the king. Seryeong is mad and refuses to enter the palace. Seungyu attacks Shin Sukju, but Myeon appears and gets injured instead. Gong Chilgu tells Myeon that someone survived the boat that was headed to Ganghwa.
Seryeong returns home to recover from the arrow wound. She refuses to marry Shin Myeon when she finds out that her father lied again. Shin Myeon contacts Gong Chilgu to find out who abducted Seryeong. Danjong decides to concede the throne to Prince Suyang.
Seryeong tells Seungyu to live and come back to kill her. Suyang plots a scheme to get Anpyeong killed and sends people to sink the boat Seungyu is on. Seryeong's marriage to Myeon is set. Seungyu escapes from the boat. He recognizes one of the men who is chasing him as the man who killed his father.
Seungyu goes to kill Suyang and finds out that Seryeong is his daughter. Seryeong threatens to kill herself if Seungyu's life isn't spared. Prince Geumseong starts to raise power to support the king. Seungyu isn't executed, but banished.
Seungyu rushes to Princess Gyeonghye's house to tell the king that his father is alive, but he is captured by Myeon. Suyang lets him go, so he will lead them to his father. Seryeong hears Seungyu was captured and rushes to the princess's house, but the princess tells her Seungyu is dead. The men who follow Seungyu kill Kim Jongseo and Myeon is about to bury Seungyu.
Seryeong finds out about Prince Suyang's plan and sneaks out to warn Seungyu of the danger. But, she is captured by the servants before she gets a chance to tell him. Prince Suyang heads to Kim Jongseo's house to kill him. Because of a message sent by Seryeong, Seungyu leaves the house before Suyang arrives.
Seungyu goes to see Seryeong. He confesses his feelings. Seryeong tries to tell him who she is, but misses the chance. Kim Jongseo pressures Suyang's people to protect Danjong. While planning a way to restore his power, Suyang finds out that Seryeong is seeing Seungyu again.
