"When the East Wind blows, it means your berry favorite dream will come true," or that's what Strawberry Shortcake's always heard and she believes it. Strawberry dreams of a world where she and her friends can grow better everyday. But when a poor berry crop puts a strain on the Strawberryland resources, it puts a strain on Strawberry's friends, too. And when the strain causes a falling-out among them, it's a nightmare for Strawberry Shortcake.

The girls are all gathered at the café. Strawberry is experimenting making applesauce from scratch with a mallet (and making a mess) while the rest busily make their own wrapping paper and bows for the annual gift exchange they hold in celebration of First Frost. Mr. Longface stops by and Strawberry offers him some fresh applesauce but he declines, as he doesn't care for it. He's only there for some tea and, being that he's new in town, doesn't know what the group is up to.

It all ends well, though, when Strawberry's friends remind her that the best gift of all is the gift of friendship.

Everyone is abuzz with how to go about choosing the Princess and what her duties will be. Postmaster Bee declares the only fair way to go about it is to hold an election. Everyone agrees.

Strawberry tells Plum she cannot hold the recital in the Café on her chosen day because the Café is booked.

He explains how the seeds were a better purchase because of all the benefits to the Berryworks but now he can no longer afford a vacation.

Strawberry is excited to try out the new corn muffin recipe, as its level of difficulty will be a challenge for her. Strawberry follows the muffin recipe, mixes the ingredients, and double checks it.

Strawberry clears her throat and reads the poem aloud. It's a simple, sweet rhyme about the magic of making wishes on falling stars. She tries a few different rhymes as she goes, noting them on her paper. She is startled to hear applause from Mr. Longface Caterpillar who has heard her recital.

Strawberry and Orange are dangling their legs in the stream when something tickles Orange's foot. She is sent squealing from the water, certain an eel is after her. Strawberry good-naturedly chuckles at her antics. But Orange gets her dander up and wades into the water to face her "attacker." When she looks down into the water, gazing up at her is the cutest, most adorable, puffy-cheeked fish she's ever seen. It's love at first sight. Orange has to take him home.

It appears winter is finally coming to an end and Raspberry is planning a big fashion show to display her spring line. Her vision is to have the girls model her fashions in a parade past the town fountain. What she didn't realize is that the Berrykins are turning the fountain into a big water show. Every time the girls come to rehearse, they must comically dodge jets of fruit juice from the out-of-control fountain-the Berrykins are still working out the bugs.
