Along the way they undertake a series of challenges culminating in a fight to find the fastest way into New York, all in the name of crowning the world's greatest sports car.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May attempt to find a trio of cars which are equally at home on the race track as they are at transporting a family to the shops, all for a budget of £5,000. They end up with a BMW M3, a Mercedes 190E and a Ford Sierra Cosworth which they then put through their paces in Europe's home of speed - Germany.

Jeremy is out on the track to recreate the Battle of Britain using a Bentley and a BMW.
