This week, we reflect on a tragic and sad memory in our lives as we remember a dear childhood friend of my son Nick, Nathan Wimsatt. Our families have been close for man years and shared a lot of time together around the soccer field, vacations, fishing trips, and much more. Nathan passed in a tragic car accident at only 18 years on April 29th, 2023. This week his Dad Brian is joining me on Lake Taylorsville where we'll share some memories and celebrate Nathan's life...that ended way to soon!

In Stomping Grounds Episode 5, our crew follows the road all the way down to where it ends on the tropical sun-baked island of Key West at the southern tip of the Florida Keys. Surrounded by water, Key West is a boater's paradise with historic seaports and marinas offering a bustling waterfront with historic schooners, dive boats, sport fishing charters, parasailing adventures and scenic coastal excursions. Host Ryan McVinney hops aboard a custom hybrid diesel-electric power catamaran with solar panels, called "Squid" for an in-depth eco-tour of Key West National Wildlife Refuge, including snorkeling in a sponge garden with tropical fish. Next a quick stop in Dry Tortugas National Park via the 110-foot Gladding Hearn power catamaran the "Yankee Freedom III" to visit historic Fort Jefferson, then we jump on a 2020 Sea Hunt 255 Ultra for a ride through the dolphin playground to a secret local boating spot known as Snipe Keys with pristine white sandbars. Back in town we we board the Nau Santa Maria - a replica of Christopher Columbus' sailboat. Finally we head 50 miles offshore to ply the wakes of the shrimp boats with fishing charter captain Chris Trosset aboard his Contender 35ST center console boat.

The hunt for FREAK SHOW became a thrilling adventure after I spotted him on Cabela's trail cam. Having hunted Kentucky for over a decade and established my own properties—Bootleggers Ridge and Stonewall Plantation—I was eager for the chance at such a remarkable deer. Despite having drawn a coveted caribou tag through Worldwide Trophy Adventures' TAGS Program, the allure of FREAK SHOW was too strong to resist. After careful planning and waiting for the right wind, I finally set out on September 11. With my crossbow in hand, I waited anxiously in the stand, my heart racing as the shadows lengthened. Just when I thought the evening might end without a sighting, a movement caught my eye, sending my pulse soaring. With caution, FREAK SHOW appeared.
