Rivers are Life

Nathalie Lasselin is a diver, filmmaker and activist who has explored everything from the Arctic to underwater caves in China yet this River Hero finds herself pulled back to the waters of her home, Montreal, to help clean up the St. Lawrence River. Underwater, Lasselin and her team scuba dive to collect water samples for testing and scavenge for manmade debris, removing up to six tons of trash each year from a river that is the source of drinking water for so many Canadians.

Fed by the Mekong River, Tonlé Sap Lake in Cambodia is not only home to hundreds of thousands of people living in the floating villages, it is also the source of 75% of Cambodia's fish (equal to 60% of the country's protein intake). Because of a combination of threats, from pollution to climate change, the densely populated area's fish populations are dwindling – but locals are educating themselves on ways to make change. In this beautifully photographed award-winning film, we get a rare glimpse into life on the lake while learning how a dedicated conservation group is combatting plastic pollution.
