Kaiba ist verdammt wütend, weil Yugi Joey während des Duells zu Hilfe kam. Yugi hingegen überlegt fieberhaft, wie er Kaiba und Marik möglichst schnell aus dem Weg räumt, um im Finale gegen Joey antreten zu können. Kaiba will dafür unbedingt Yugi und Marik schlagen. Sein Plan ist es, zuerst Yugi auszuschalten, um dann Marik zu besiegen. Joey dankt Yugi leise für seine Hilfe. Ihm liegt am meisten daran, Marik fertig zu machen, damit er Mai retten kann. Da versucht Kaiba einen Keil zwischen Yugi und Joey zu treiben, indem er Joey erzählt, Yugi würde ihm nur helfen, weil er genau wüsste, dass Joey – auf sich gestellt – das Duell niemals gewinnen könne. Yugi plane, zunächst mit Joeys Unterstützung Marik und Kaiba zu überwältigen, um dann im Final gegen den schwächeren Joey den sicheren Sieg einstreichen zu können.
