Yugi lässt sich auf das Duell mit Larik ein, da es die einzige Chance ist, seine ferngesteuerten Freunde zu retten. Marik legt allerdings fest, dass der Verlierer des Zweikampfs mit einem Anker im Meer versenkt wird. Außerdem darf Yugi seine Götterkarte nicht einsetzen.
Yugi und Kaiba machen sich auf die Suche nach ihren Freunden. Im Hafen entdecken sie Joey, der anscheinend von Marik ferngesteuert wird. Und auch Tea steht unter Mariks Einfluss. Um an Puzzle und die Götterkarte zu kommen, fordert Marik schließlich Yugi zum Duell auf. Doch Marik ändert die Regeln des Duells, so dass Yugi ziemlich in Bedrängnis kommt.
Mokuba gelingt die Flucht aus dem Verlies und schließlich zeigt er Kaiba und Yugi den Weg zu Marik.
Nach den Anfangsschwierigkeiten entwickeln sich Kaiba und Yugi zum perfekten Team! Doch obwohl Umbra ins Reich der Schatten stürzt und Lumis zusammenbricht, gibt Marik nicht auf. Er hält sich nicht an die Abmachung, die Entführten wieder frei zu lassen.
Yugi konnte erneut durch seine faire Teamarbeit Kaibas Lebenspunkte retten. Kaiba sieht endlich ein, dass die beiden ohne Teamwork gegen Lumis und Umbra nichts ausrichten können.
