Joe and Max

The German boxer Max Schmeling (Till Schweiger) unexpectedly defeats the previously undefeated American favorite Joe Louis in 1936. Schmeling makes boxing history with this victory, and the Nazis exploit his success to propagate the superiority of the white race over blacks. Two years later, a rematch takes place between the African American and the 'white Übermensch.' This matchup leads to a deep, lifelong friendship between the two that goes unnoticed by the public.
