Tim Gunn introduces everyone to the eighteen new designers who will be competing against each other on Project Runway Season 13. He also teases the fact that one of three former designers, chosen strictly by the fans, will be rejoining the competition this season.
All of the designers reunite one last time to discuss their experiences on Project Runway together, settle any last feuds that still exist in the group, and reminisce about their time on this season. Tim Gunn hosts…and a rather spirited discussion leads him to almost lose his cool with the designers!
The moment that our designers have been waiting and hoping for since the very beginning, the opportunity to show at New York Fashion Week, has finally arrived. With only four competitors remaining, another look to create, and very little time left, who will ultimately have what it takes to win Project Runway?
Fashion Week is just around the corner, and the remaining five designers return home to work on their collections. But even though two designers are guaranteed a spot at New York Fashion Week, the remaining three have to battle in front of the judges to prove who has what it takes to make it to the next level and show their collection at Lincoln Center.
For the L'Oreal Makeup Challenge, the designers are asked to create an avant-garde look inspired by butterflies. But there is a twist: They also have to redesign a previously loosing look from the season, as the judges prepare to decide who makes it to New York Fashion Week.
For the HP Challenge the designers must create a textile and look based on inspirations they receive from Next Generation Innovators. When the judges are not pleased on the Runway, two designers are eliminated.
Through the help of L'Oreal Paris, the designers are given the opportunity to make over “Superfans” of Project Runway. Also, tensions run high as two designers engage in a heated conflict, and Tim has to intervene.
The designers are taken to Coney Island and split into teams of two for the Yoplait Challenge. After asking patrons to describe different flavors of yogurt, they must then use these descriptive words as inspiration for their Runway look. The catch? The only fabric allowed in this challenge are from prizes they win at Coney Island.
The designers are surprised to see armed security guards arrive on the Runway…until their models step out wearing millions of dollars of exquisite jewels. The designers must create a look based around the model, and jewelry, of their choosing.
In the season premiere, we meet 15 brand new designers on an airfield outside of NYC, and learn from Heidi and Tim that Kate (Season 11) will be rejoining the competition. The new designers witness a spectacular skydive that ends with their first challenge: Design a look that represents their aesthetic, but only using parachutes as material.

All of the designers get to meet with each other one more time to talk about their experiences while on Project Runway Season 11. The designers seize the opportunity to celebrate the winner and iron out any issues that may need resolving. While their discussion gets heated at times, their time together is revealing and cathartic for everybody.
It's the moment of truth for the remaining designers as they each present their final collections to an eager audience at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. One designer is named the winner of Project Runway Season 11, and the rest are unfortunately out.
Weak and weary from their journey, the few designers left say goodbye to NYC and return to their respective hometowns to begin working on their final collections. Tim Gunn travels to visit the designers and assess their progress. In the end, all four remaining designers must present their three best pieces to the judging panel, as the judges are left to decide who will move on to show at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
The remaining designers are paired with new assistants and each sent to a European fashion capital: Paris, Barcelona, London, and Berlin. One unlucky designer stays in NYC. The designers must draw inspiration from their city, as well as purchase their materials there. Upon returning to NYC, they must create a look for the judges that will prove they have what it takes to design a collection for Fashion Week.
The large teams dissolve, and the designers are now asked to work in pairs. The teams must make two looks—one red carpet and one performance—for country music star Miranda Lambert.
The designers are tasked with the Unconventional Materials Challenge. Two of Project Runway's favorite challenges, the flower store and the hardware store, are combined for the ultimate “hard and soft” challenge. Also, the teams get a bit of a shake-up when two members leave one team and one member leaves another. The legendary Bette Midler serves as a guest judge.
The teams are presented with the challenge and privilege of designing a look for Heidi to wear in her ad campaign and for press events while promoting her new fragrance “Surprise". Two designers win the challenge.
The two teams are tasked with designing new uniforms for the popular nightclub/ping pong club Spin. The winning design will be worn by Spin employees. Susan Sarandon appears as a guest judge.
