Fashion week is just around the corner, but not before the final four designers are surprised with a trip to Rome, courtesy of Best Western. The designers join Tim in a trip of a lifetime, where they gain inspiration for their collections. Later, Tim visits each of the designers at home to check on their progress. The designers then return to NYC and present a preview of their collection to the judges.

In the Marie Claire Challenge, the designers are once again split off into teams to design a fashion capsule collection for the new magazine Marie Claire at Work. The teams also must direct a fashion shoot for their collection, which is also part of the criteria they are judged on for this challenge.
For the Michael Kors Challenge, the designers are tasked with making an outfit for a woman on the go—something chic and stylish but wearable enough to last throughout the entire day. Also, the designers are left in a state of confusion as two of their fellow competitors abruptly decide to leave Project Runway.

Each team is assigned a client to design for, and this client is one of several past contestants on Project Runway. When Tim informs them that they will find all the materials they need inside, they quickly realize that this is their opportunity to show the judges how they can think outside the box.
