Fairouz is a Lebanese musician and actress. She was born in a village close to Beirut and she studied at a nun’s school. Her talents were noticed by Halim al-Roumi and she studied under ‘Aasi al-Rahbani. Fairouz became well known for songs which were composed by the Rahbani brothers such as “Baktib Ismak” (I Write your Name”), “Noon”, “Habaitak bel Saif” (I Loved you in the Summer”), “Shadi” and “Zahrat al-Madain” (“Flower of the Cities”). Fairouz also worked on many stage musical such as “Mais al-Reem”, “Safar Borlok” and “Baia’ al-Khawatim” (“Ring Seller”) along with her husband ‘Aasi and his brother Mansour al-Rahbani and her son Ziad. After the artistic divorce between Fairouz and the Rahbani brothers in 1979, Fairuz carried on with her son, composer Ziad Rahbani, his friend the lyricist Joseph Harb, and composer Philemon Wehbe. Together, they made highly successful and critically acclaimed albums, like "Wahdon" (Alone) in 1979, "Ma'refty Feek" (My Knowledge of You) in 1984 and "Kifak Inta" (How are You) in 1991. Her latest album to date was "Eh Fi Amal" (Yes, There is Hope), which was released in 2010.
