
Serhii Kulybyshev
Serhii Kulybyshev is a Ukrainian film and theatre screenwriter, director and dramatist known for his sharp storytelling and genre-blending work in contemporary Ukrainian cinema and theatre. Born in Crimea, he became a displaced person in Ukraine after 2014 and has been writing professionally since the early 2000s, with over 400 scripts for TV, film, and stage to his credit. Kulybyshev’s credits span television sitcoms, award-winning short film, and original series — including Hovayuchy kolyshnyu (Burying the Ex), a drama with black humor set in wartime Kyiv that explores memory, love, and self-discovery. He has also served as showrunner and director on socially resonant projects and has won recognition for both his screen and theatrical writing, including accolades for his theatrical work Velychne stolittya. A member of the Ukrainian Film Academy, Serhii combines humor with human insight, often digging into the emotional landscapes of his characters against the backdrop of Ukraine’s contemporary realities.
