Aleksandar Kostic is a New York City-based film director, cinematographer, writer, producer, and sound designer whose work blends science fiction, mystery, psychology, and social commentary. Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, his films often explore the boundaries between fact and fiction, the mysterious and the mystical, the paranoid and the paranormal, and the hidden forces that shape human perception and consciousness. His award-winning debut feature film, Capio, is a sci-fi psychological thriller exploring what happens when society's fascination with technology evolves alongside unchecked corporate influence. Through themes of perception, manipulation, and digital dependency, the film examines how technological progress can gradually erode human connection, love, privacy, freedom, and our relationship with the natural world. Capio received the Outstanding Achievement in Speculative Fiction award at the Queens World Film Festival and earned a 9.5/10 review score from Film Threat. Kostic's distinctive cinematography has been recognized by The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and The Hollywood Reporter for narrative and documentary work ranging from the feature film Allure to documentaries featuring former United Nations Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar and CBGB founder Hilly Kristal. His first documentary film, The World of Vija Vetra, chronicled the life and artistic journey of renowned dancer and choreographer Vija Vetra. His experimental film Persistence of Memory premiered at the opening of the MaerzMusik Festival in Berlin, Germany, in conjunction with Joan La Barbara's concert work of the same name as part of the festival's "Cage and Consequences" celebration honoring the 100th anniversary of John Cage's birth. Kostic's work has screened internationally at venues and festivals including the PÖFF Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, Museum of the Moving Image, Queens World Film Festival, Philip K. Dick Film Festival, MaerzMusik Festival Berlin, Anthology Film Archives, Balkan New Film Festival, and others. In addition to his narrative and documentary filmmaking, Kostic has directed, photographed, and produced hundreds of commercial, corporate, music video, and branded content projects through his production company, Kostic Films LLC.
