Olivia Wang

Olivia Wang (Chinese name:王欧) is a Chinese–Australian actor, creator, and cross-cultural arts practitioner working across screen, theatre, and embodied performance. She is the recipient of 7 international Best Actress awards, with her work selected by 30+ international film festivals, and continues to work bilingually across Chinese, Australian, and international creative contexts. Her artistic practice centres on migration, the body, identity, female subjectivity, and the emotional architecture of silence, gradually developing into what she describes as Embodied Migration Acting and Embodied Screen Acting. Her work is particularly concerned with how actors move beyond interpretation and into authorship — using breath, rhythm, spatial behaviour, and physical presence as cinematic language. Beyond screen, Olivia is also a stage performer. Olivia Wang is the first actor to perform Chinese Australian cross-cultural physical theatre on stage, taking on lead roles in several productions. She has performed in renowned venues like La Mama and various prestigious Australian arts festivals, with her works selected in acclaimed live broadcasts, captivating audiences and becoming some of the local scene's most popular shows. The uniqueness of her artworks lies in her ingenious fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics and expressions, resulting in artistic expressions that possess both profound cultural depth and a modern sensibility. Alongside her acting career, Olivia Wang is also the founder of Cross Encounters, Melbourne’s first fully accredited Chinese–Australian cross-cultural performing arts platform. Through this work, she has led projects across artistic exchange, interdisciplinary creation, performance training, and public cultural engagement. Her practice moves across industry, authorship, cultural dialogue, and performance methodology, positioning her as a distinctive voice within contemporary Chinese–Australian performance and screen culture. Olivia Wang is widely regarded as the First Voice of Chinese-Australian Performing Arts. As the recipient of the Victorian Multicultural Arts Excellence Award, Olivia's achievements have been recognised by mainstream media and industry papers, with a highlight of the five reports by SBS. As a theatre arts and cultural exchange ambassador, she is now the head of CROSS ENCOUNTERS, a well-known non-profit performing arts group in Melbourne. Olivia Wang's dedication to showcasing Asian-Australian culture through the performing arts has made a significant impact, earning her recognition as the leader and the ambassador for performing arts and cultural exchange. Olivia is the winner of contributions to Arts and Culture award in Yarra, Asian-Australian Leadership Awards 1st Runner-Up, alongside over ten nominations in arts and culture field. These achievements underscore Olivia Wang's presence as the lead in Chinese-Australian performing arts scene.
