最近城裡的屢屢發生珠寶劫案，警察們都束手無策。因為賊人的手法和以前聞名的大盜「黑貓」約翰羅比（Cary Grant 飾）如出一轍，警察們找上了正在鄉間別墅過著悠閒生活的約翰。約翰當然不會輕易就範，他擺脫了警察之後，開始調查到底是誰用他的手法屢屢作案。毫無頭緒的約翰找到了以前的戰友巴先生，卻被巴先生餐館裡的人視作不速之客。幸好在侍者孚的女兒的幫助下，約翰來到了嘎納海灘。在保險公司經理的幫助下，約翰展開了他的抓賊行動。
