男主角艾登是個默默無名的演員，35 歲的他在各個劇組打零工，收入不甚穩定，兩個小孩的學費以及生活費幾乎由老婆以及老父親負擔。 某天，老父親沉重的告知，自己得了癌症需要醫療費，無力再負擔他孩子們的費用，艾登不得不把孩子帶回家自學。 為了不被經濟壓力擊垮，艾登學著面對以及與孩子們找尋其他的出路以及生活方式。對這一家人來說，齊心一致面對難題，是最難能可貴的生命經驗。
