河內一個由兄妹四人組成的普通中產階級家庭，大姐香與攝影師丈夫昆有一個兒子，但兩人性生活不和諧，二姐卿（黎卿）同作家金結婚沒多久，小妹琳（陳女燕溪）患有幽閉恐懼症，她與弟弟海保持著一種曖昧關係。在母親的齋祀日，三姐妹追憶起被戲稱為“母親的譚”的神秘男人。為獲得寫作靈感，金前往西貢尋找有關譚的資料，此時他發現梅已懷有身孕，不明白梅為什麼要對自己保密，香在昆出差期間有了外遇，琳則在與海保持曖昧關係的同時，與另一個男孩有交往。透過平靜生活的表面，三姐妹都有不願人知的秘密和心事。
