故事講述在不久的未來，地球因為人類過度開發而耗盡，變的不再適合人類居住，在尋找新星球定居過程中，人類意外發現了美麗，居民和善寬容的泰拉星。 他們並發現，只要運用某種科技，就可以將泰拉星改變成適合人類的環境。但是，這個新環境對泰拉星的居民卻是致命的。 在一次偶類的機會下，泰拉星少女馬拉（Evan Rachel Wood 配音）拯救了人類飛行員金（Luke Wilson配音），為了救回被綁架的父親羅凡（Dennis Quaid 配音），以及泰拉星人們的命運，馬拉與金計劃一同尋求方法，讓人類和泰拉星居民和平相處。
