美國懸疑大師希區考克(Alfred Hitchcock)改編派翠西亞海史(Patricia Highsmith)小說作品，講述兩個在火車上偶然相遇的生人，喜歡幻想的富家子弟布魯諾(Robert Walker 飾)，向網球手蓋伊(Farley Granger 飾)提議了一個「完美的謀殺計畫」，布魯諾為蓋伊殺掉其不守婦道的妻子，而蓋伊則殺掉布魯諾的父親回報。由於殺人者和被害者毫無關聯，因此沒有殺人動機，警方也無法破案...。 後來，布魯諾真的殺死了蓋伊的妻子，並以他在火車上撿到蓋伊的打火機做為証物威脅他，無法下手殺人的蓋伊忍不住把真相告訴睡在床上的布魯諾的父親，沒想到，睡在床上的就是布魯諾本人...
