1942年的挪威，以斯帖（Sarah-Sofi e Boussnina），一名14歲的猶太女孩在她的小鎮被恐怖統治時，迫使她的父母把她藏在前往瑞典的卡車上，以此保住女孩的性命安全。以斯帖的卡車卻遭到納粹襲擊，她逃到森林裡遇到了一個與她同齡的男孩阿塞爾（Arthur Hakalahti）。阿塞爾喜歡上她也將她隱藏在他家的穀倉裡。為了不讓納粹發現，她偽裝成一個男孩與阿塞爾一起逃離納粹佔領的領土到瑞典，希望父母還在等她。
