在姐姐结婚当天因为酒驾而车祸后，葛雯·康明斯有两个抉择：监狱和勒戒所。她选择了勒戒所，但是她强烈反对参与勒戒所里的任何一个治疗课程，并拒绝承认自己有酒精中毒。在认识一些病人后，葛雯开始自我检讨其一生，并发现自己的确有很严重的酒精中毒的问题。她和Andrea（一位17岁因上瘾海洛因而进入勒戒所的女孩，有时候会自残）做朋友。当她尝试让自己保持清醒状态时，所有其他的病人帮助她，让她看见不同面的自己。在通往矫正、治疗的道路上，并不如想像中的简单，即使成功了，也不一定是自己喜欢的结果。但是，她已经有能力让自己去尝试控制自己别再喝酒了。
