医生John Rowan 与模特Lynn Nolan是一对郎才女貌的情侣，两人刚刚订婚，Lynn却在一场派对上毁了容，John为此潜心研究出恢复容颜的手术，但这个妙法却有时间限制，而手术材料更是要用新鲜的人脑垂体制作，在未婚妻的爱与职业道德之间，Rowan苦苦挣扎。 John Rowan的扮演者Peter Cushing在此片中贡献了不错的演技，将一个医生内心的道德纠结展现的淋漓尽致。值得注意的是女主角却不是一个无脑花瓶，反而是将男主推向道德边缘的始作俑者，一面操纵利用男主，一面撇清自己，直到电影结束，也没有人揭穿其贪婪本性，有独特复杂的魅力。电影中的配角设定也独具趣味，为剧情添加了一些反转魅力。结尾显得稍微仓促，但瑕不掩瑜。毕竟仓促结尾也算是50-60年代恐怖片的特色了。
