影片改编自同名小说，通过老兵的言行，描绘出法国历史中根深蒂固的种族主义以及战争带来的创伤。故事发生在2003年，法国勃艮第的一个小村庄里，村民索朗琪即将迎来她60岁生日。此时，阿尔及利亚战争已经结束四十年，当地参与战争的老兵们对过往也一直缄口如瓶——直到他们的战友，索朗琪多年未见的哥哥福德瓦突然现身在妹妹的生日派对上。殖民战争的恐怖回忆开始浮现在人们的眼前……
