这并不是第一部设计到巫术杀人的电影，导演也没有野心要在巫术上作出多少创新，否则就像怪兽一样只能沦为单纯的噱头。本片的出色之处在于对气氛的巧妙把控和悬疑的精致铺陈，娓娓讲来一个如同解密游戏般的侦探故事。骨子里仍是发现狂人阴谋的英雄故事，但在猫变豹子，呼风唤雨之类的超自然细节渲染下，时不时有让人心惊肉跳的表现。大量诡异的音乐也表现不俗。
