Description
Tiểu thuyết gia lãng mạn Paul Sheldon nổi tiếng nhờ loạt tiểu thuyết dài tập xoay quanh nữ nhân vật chính Misery Chastaine. Nhưng Paul không ngờ rằng con người ảo được ông xây dựng từ trí tưởng tượng đó một ngày nọ đã trở thành hiện thực bằng xương bằng thịt và bước vào đời ông như một hiểm họa đen tối qua hình dạng Annie Wilkes, một nữ y tá đã nghỉ việc và là người hâm mộ cuồng nhiệt nhân vật Misery. Mắc bệnh tâm thần phân liệt, Annie đã dần tưởng tượng ra rằng cô chính là Misery và dàn cảnh một vụ tai nạn để từ đó Annie có thể bắt cóc nhà văn Sheldon về nhà. Lúc đầu, Annie chăm sóc Sheldon rất tử tế. Nhưng khi biết rằng Sheldon đã mệt mỏi với bộ tiểu thuyết dài tập và đã cho nhân vật Misery chết đi trong tập truyện mới nhất, Annie trở nên rất tức giận và hành hạ Sheldon bằng những cực hình tàn khốc nhất để bắt ông phải viết lại câu chuyện…
