Chuyện phim kể về hai nhà báo Mỹ có thật - Carl Bernstein và Bob Woodward của tờ Washington Post, họ là những người đã điều tra vụ bê bối chính trị Watergate, một trong những vụ scandal lớn nhất từng xảy ra trong lịch sử chính trường Mỹ, dẫn tới việc Tổng thống Richard Nixon phải từ chức. Bộ phim ra mắt năm 1976 và Robert Redford vào vai Woodward còn Dustin Hofman đóng Bernstein. Báo New York Times gọi đó là "câu chuyện trinh thám mê hoặc". Và tờ Post từng coi All the President's Men la "phim hay nhất từng sản xuất về nghề báo". Không còn gì nghi ngờ khi đó là bộ phim được nhiều người xem nhất trong số các phim tài liệu về Watergate và là một bộ phim không chỉ để tiêu khiển, nó còn là bộ phim được xem như một “bệ phóng truyền thông” về sức ảnh hưởng của báo chí với công chúng và xã hội.
