В ходе Второй Мировой войны знаменитый эсминец «Джон Пол Джонс» затонул на юге Тихого океана. После этого ВМФ выпускает новый эсминец, который перенимает имя затонувшего корабля. Стив «Боули» Болеславски и Канзас Джексон, рисковавшие жизнями на борту «Джонса» ещё во время Первой Мировой, с гордостью принимают участие в строительстве нового судна. На церемонии спуска корабля на воду Боули встречает своего бывшего сослуживца Кларка, который назначен командиром корабля на новом «Джонсе». После этой встречи Боули решает снова пойти на службу и попасть на борт «Джонса»...
