Oscar er en liten fisk med store ambisjoner, noe som ofte fører ham i trøbbel. Et annet dyr i havet, Lenny, er en hvithai med en hemmelighet som intet sjødyr ville gjettet: Han er vegetarianer. Når en bløff får Oscar til å fremstå som en uventet helt og Lenny blir utstøtt fra sin egen familie, oppstår utrolig nok et vennskap mellom de to.
