알라스카의 한 구석에 자리잡은 미스테리는 633명의 주민이 사는 조그만 마을이다. 이 조그만 마을이 저명한 스포츠 전문지 '스포츠 일러스트레이트'에 실리면서 마을은 순식간에 유명해진다. 눈과 얼음으로 뒤덮인 이 마을의 주민들이 NHL 선수들에 버금가는 하키 실력을 지니고 있다는 기사가 사람들의 관심사를 끌자, 전통 강호인 뉴욕 레인저스가 마을을 방문하여 시합을 갖자는 제의가 들어온 것이다. 주민들은 마을 회의를 열고, 찬성과 반대 사이에서 열띤 토론이 벌어진다. 경기에 참여할 젊은이들의 패기로 안건은 통과되고, 게임은 성사된다. 그 날 이후로, 하키 시합에 참가할 주민들은 강도높은 훈련에 돌입하는데...
