식민지 총독인 바이스로이(던컨 라몽 分)는 일과 아내를 뒷전으로 미룬 채 매력적인 유랑극단의 여배우 까밀라의 사랑을 얻기 위해 애쓴다. 그리고 급기야 자신이 특별히 주문해서 만든 황금마차를 까밀라에게 넘기기에 이른다. 하지만 당대 최고의 투우사인 라몬(리카르도 리올리 分)과 순수한 귀족, 펠리페(폴 캠벨 分) 또한 까밀라의 사랑을 얻기 위해 결투까지 무릅쓴다. 이에 까밀라는 유혈 사태를 막기 위해 황금마차를 가톨릭 주교에게 바친 뒤, 사랑의 미련을 마음속에 묻은 채 세 남자 모두의 사랑을 뒤로 하고 다시 유랑극단으로 돌아간다.
