뉴욕 주 벤턴 지역에서 벌어진 십대들의 할로윈 파티에서 잔혹한 살인사건 벌어진다. 수사관 덴버와 보안관 제인이 범인으로 추정되는 트릭을 향해 총을 쏘고 강으로 뛰어든 그는 사망으로 추정된다. 하지만 정체불명의 연쇄 살인범은 무고한 사람을 해치러 매년 할로윈에 돌아오고 희생자 수는 늘어난다. 덴버와 제인은 사건의 실마리를 찾으려 애쓰지만 해결책은 보이지 않는다. 처음엔 덴버만이 트릭이 살아있다고 확신하지만 할로윈 살인 사건이 늘어날수록 주변 사람들도 트릭이 돌아온 사실을 부인하지 못 한다. 덴버는 다음 희생자를 막기 위해 수단과 방법을 가리지 않고 현장으로 뛰어든다.
