형사 알렉스는 한 사건을 조사하던 중, 얼굴에 흉터가 있는 한 알 수 없는 인물에 의해 습격을 받고 부상을 당한다. 입원한 그는 병원에서 열한 살 소년 레오를 만나는데, 레오는 마음 먹은대로 자신의 몸을 떠날 수 있는 능력을 가졌다. 레오는 하늘을 날고, 유령처럼 벽을 통과하고 사람들에게 보이지 않는다. 레오 덕분에 알렉스는 용감무쌍한 기자 마리와 함께 수호천사의 역할을 할 수 있다. 얼굴에 흉터가 있는 갱스터가 도시를 위협하고 있다. 휠체어를 탄 형사 알렉스와 원하는 곳으로 어디든 갈 수 있는 소년은 함께 수사를 하며 소년은 형사의 눈과 다리가 되어 준다.
