어뢰에 맞은 ‘토린’이라는 구축함이 기적적으로 구조돼 영국 해안에서 수리에 들어간다. 하지만 배의 페인트가 마르고, 수리가 끝나기도 전에 토린은 크레테 섬에서 한 번 더 폭격을 맞는다. 배에 탄 군인들은 다들 파편을 붙들고 구조를 기다리며 가족들과 사랑하는 이들을 떠올린다.
