드라마
권투를 소재로 한 영화 중 제대로 만들어진 작품이다. 커크 더글라스의 아주 젊은 시절 모습을 볼 수 있다. 한 가난하고 야망있는 소년이 우연히 권투를 배우게 된다. 그는 타고난 재질로 경기에 쉽게 이기다가 나중에는 세계 챔피온이 된다. 그러나 그는 점점 세속에 물들어가는 인간이 되어 사랑하는 사람도 버리고, 친한 친구도 버려 육체적 정신적으로 병든 사람이 되어 버린다. 그리고는 결국 챔피온 벨트마져 빼앗기게 된다. 결국 자신이 좋아하던 사람들을 위해 열심히 혹독한 훈련을 겪어내고 챔피언을 재 탈환하는데 성공한다.
