1948 년 8 월 9 일. 나가사키에서 산파를 사는 노부코 전에 3 년 전에 원폭으로 잃은 것의 아들 코지가 느닷없이 나타난다. "엄마는 포기가 나쁘기 때문에 좀처럼 나오지되지 못 했어." 그날부터 코지는 때때로 노부코 앞에 나타나게된다. 두 사람은 많은 이야기를하지만, 가장 큰 관심은 코지의 연인 마치코의 것이었다.
