지극히 평범하고 소심한 나머지 존재감이 거의 느껴지지 않는 조는 제약회사에서 영상홍보 전문가로 일하고 있다. 비록 남에게 인정을 받지 못하지만 업무에 최선을 다하는 한편 이혼한 아내가 키우는 외동딸 나탈리에게 헌신적인 애정을 쏟는다. 그런 조의 모습을 곁에서 지켜본 동료 멕은 그의 능력과 책임감을 높이 평가하고 호감을 갖는다. 그러던 어느날, 조는 자신의 주차 구역에 차를 세운 후배 마크에게 항의하던 중 나탈리와 동료들이 지켜보는 가운데 무참히 폭행을 당한다. 이에 굴욕감을 느낀 조는 마크에게 도전장을 던지고 무술 유단자 척의 지도를 받아 자신감 넘치는 적극적인 남자로 다시 태어나기로 결심하는데.
