뉴욕에 나와 생활하다 에이즈에 걸려 고향 애리조나로 낙향하려는 로빈은여행 동반자를 구하는 광고를 낸다. LA로 가길 꿈꾸는 밤무대 가수 제인이 우연히 광고를 보고 함께 자동차 여행을 떠난다. 성격이 괄괄한 로빈 은 지나치게 깔끔을 떠는 제인이 마음에 들지 않지만 로빈의 적극적인 권유에 못이겨 여행 파트너가 되어준 것. 둘은 가는 도중에 제인의 친구 할리의 집에 들리지만 할리의 애인 때문에 집안은 온통 쑥대밭이다. 침착하고 대범한 로빈 덕분에 발광하는 남자를 의자에 묶어둔 채 세 여자는 함께 길을 떠난다. 그러나 제인과 로빈은 할리가 원치 않은 임신을 했고 설상가상으로 수배자가 돼 있다는 사실을 알게 되는데....
