라스베이거스에서 택시 기사로 일하는 제리(Jerry Logan: 앤드류 맥카시 분)는 어느 날 새벽, 공항으로 가자던 남자 손님이 괴한의 총에 맞아 숨지고, 우연히 그가 차에 남긴 백만불이 든 손가방을 얻게 된다. 제리는 횡재를 좋아할 겨를도 없이 괴한의 추적을 받게 되고, 라스베이거스에서 밴쿠버로, 다시 LA로의 도피 여행길에 오른다. 그를 쫓는 괴한은 잔혹한 일급 킬러 데이빗(David Eckhart: 스콧 글렌 분)으로, 그의 동료에 의해 끊는 물에 두 발이 데이지만 간신히 탈출하여 병원에서 치료를 받게 된다. 이때 간호사 크리스(Chris Altman: 자넷 건 분)와 만나 두 사람은 첫눈에 반하고 그녀의 도움을 받게 된다. 마침내 호텔 지하실에서 제리의 임기응변과 재치로 승리를 거머쥐는데...
