장거리 연애를 이어가는 커플의 알콩달콩 사랑 이야기. 여자의 마음을 읽을 줄 몰라 고군분투하는 뉴요커 가레트(저스틴 롱)는 항상 여자친구로부터 버림을 받는다. 또 한 번의 실연을 격은 어느 날, 그는 자신을 위로하기 위해 찾아온 친구와 함께 어느 바(bar)에 간다. 그리고 그는 거기서 운명의 여인인 에린(드류 배리모어)을 만난다. 함께 게임을 즐기고 맥주를 마시며 즐거운 시간을 보낸 두 사람은 설명할 수 없는 운명의 인연을 감지하기 시작했다. 하지만 두 사람에게는 넘어야 할 산이 있었다. 에린이 학교를 졸업하기 위해 6주 동안 샌프란시스코로 떠나야 한다는 사실이었다. 에린이 뉴욕에 머무는 여름 동안 서로에게 뜨거운 사랑을 느낀 두 사람은 서로가 서로에게 없어서는 안될 존재라는 것을 깨닫는다. 도저히 두 눈 뜨고는 못 볼만큼 때와 장소를 가리지 않고 애정행각을 벌이던 가레트와 에린에게 드디어 이별의 순간이 다가 왔다. 과연 이 두 사람의 장거리 연애를 이어갈 수 있을까...
